Dr. Shanker Adawal

Doctorate in Agriculture and MBA, Social Activist and Development Expert by profession

Dr. Shanker is a Ph D in Agriculture Economics, is a human rights activist for the past two decades. He is the President of Manavadhikar Samajik Manch, a non-governmental organization, working in the areas of promotion and protection of human rights in India.

Dr Shanker as a team leader has conducted several research studies relating to the development sector and awareness campaigns and advocacy programmes on human rights. He is also associated with several national campaigns. He is a voracious reader, fighter for human rights and makes his presence felt wherever violations of human rights occur. He is a regular participant in different national and international seminars on issues relating to human rights. He has traveled extensively in India and abroad. As a person committed to upholding the dignity of the individual, Dr. Shanker has been on the forefront of different human rights initiatives and is committed for creation of a just and equitable society. Human Touch, a monthly publication of Manavadhikar Samajik Manch, is a brainchild of Dr Shanker. He also has keen interest in astrology and written four books relating to the subject.

Project Director, Public Consultation on JICA Feasibility Study on Dedicated Freight Corridor-Package-III: Environment and Social Impact Mitigation Measures study in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh, commissioned by Consulting Engineering Services (India) Pvt. 1. Organised Public Meeting on Solid Waste Management in Madanpur Khadar and Molarbandh Resettlement Colonies, sponsored by Indian Environment Society for Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India.
2. Camps on Free Legal Aid to Poor, with the support of Delhi State Legal Aid Services Authority, Government of NCT of Delhi since last 4 years in various parts of Delhi.
3. HIV/AIDS awareness camp, with the support of Delhi State AIDS Control Society, Government of NCT of Delhi.
4. Jansunwaees (public hearings) for Delhi Minorities Commission, Government of NCT of Delhi.  
5. Entrepreneurship Development Programme, funded by NABARD in Dallupura Village, Gazipur Village, Nandnagri and Gokulpuri village of East Delhi.
6. Human Rights awareness campaigns, with support from National Human Rights Commission.
7. National Environment Awareness Campaign at Madanpur Khadar, supported by Ministry of Environment & Forest, Government of India.
8. Conducted Health Relief Camp for flood victims in Bihar in collaboration with SEEDs, a local non-governmental organisation.
9. Voluntary blood donation camps, with the help of Delhi State AIDS Control Society, Government of Delhi.
10. Voluntary blood donation camps, with the help of Indian Red Cross Society in various parts of Delhi.
11. Organised Pulse Polio Programme since last four years with the support of Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Government of NCT of Delhi.
12. Organised Mental Health Advocacy Programmes on 10th October, 2004 in Gokulpuri, Dakshinpuri, Nand Nagari, Govindpuri, Geeta Colony, Laxmi Nagar, Jamia Nagar, Shahdra, Kalyan Puri, Saboli Village, (Nand Nagari) and Vivek Vihar, co-sponsored by National Legal Services Authority and Delhi State Legal Services Authority.

Innovative Campaign:
Under the leadership of Dr. Shanker, Manavadhikar Samajik Manch has established 42 local chapters/ Manchs across Delhi whose representatives are working as Citizen Guardians. The representatives are not only fighting against the human rights violations but also helping the community in filing RTI applications in particular and empowering the community in general.
